Paralleling 101: Basics and Operations
Course Description:
Generators can be paralleled to make a larger source, get power redundancy, fuel optimization, increasing reliability of power to critical loads, lower capital cost etc. There are a few key basics that need to be understood when designing a paralleled backup/ prime power system. In this first course we will explore reasons and building blocks of a paralleling system. The course is free of charge.
Objectives: After this course, you will be able to:
1. Use a building block approach to understand generator set paralleling.
2. Explain the basic concept behind on-board paralleling controls vs. traditional paralleling controls.
3. Explain the role of a master control panel (MCP) in an isolated bus paralleling application.
4. Specify pre-configured, off-the-shelf, on-board paralleling controls, generator set paralleling systems.
